I bought this as a gift and that person likes it very well. Sorry I can’t comment more than that!

I bought this laptop based on the price and enhanced process capabilities. Runs faster helped by the advanced i3 core processor. Win 7 home premium needs a little bit of upgrading for my own purposes, which I’d probably do into Win Ultimate.

    Pros:

    - Excelent Screen Display, bright color, wide 15.4″.

    - Speed fast booting

    - Fast DVD driver for backups

    - Numerical keybord for accounting at one side

    - Convenient web camera

    - Big data storage HDD 500Gb

    - Convenient micro-headphone outputs location, left side.

    - Toshiba seems to be improving its customer support with all kinds links preinstalled on the machine (GOOD!!!)

    - I tested FIFA 10, DOOM 3 and works quite nice. FIFA 10 has a little bit of freezing (less then 1 sec) but it works.

    Odds:

    - Sound speakers are weak, compared with my old Toshiba

    - Mouse pad got stock for a while and the cursor doesn’t move. The rugged surface isn’t that rough.

    - Rather have two separated HDD for system and data to secure your info.

    - Multi card reader is not “multireader”, lack of XD cards option.

    - 3 USB connectors but the frame suggests enough space for an extra USB more.

The button line is that, if you one a multitask machine that don’t crashes the system, this is a right choice and price ($600). Last comment is, I would rather have this machine with XP preinstalled instead of Vista or even Win7. Although, Win 7 has not given me any compatibility or security issues.

The Toshiba L-505 appeared to be the best value in an economical, full-service notebook. After purchasing this computer I feel confident that we made the right choice. I have used my new Toshiba the last 4 weeks and appreciate the quality LCD display, the keyboard touch and layout and the sturdy packaging. I expect many years of satisfactory, trouble-free service from this notebook. I would prefer a few additional USB ports, more depth to the speakers and a matte finish on the casing rather than the black mirror finish which shows fingerprints. These minor criticisms are insignificant to the quality and value offered by this Toshiba notebook.

The reviews said good speakers inside, uhuh, not even close!

But a small point, as the rest seems to be working fine.

Picked this up on arrival in the US from Australia (where it isn’t shipped) and after 2 weeks of solid use I can’t fault the computer.

After getting some sort of malware within 12 hours (when will I learn not to trust serial crack sites?) Toshiba service was really helpful, guiding a restore to factory defaults.

Huge hard disk, plenty of RAM for storing and editing photos of road trip. Great machine.

My only gripe if any is all the extra software Toshiba loads – games, Norton, Office etc. But maybe the extra $$ they make from these helps keep the price of the machine down.
