I have had two pairs of Keen sandals over the years and loved them so I thought I would try a pair of their boots. I don’t wear them a ton, just doing yard work and at the RC track. In short order I found out they are NOT waterproof. Both my feet get wet in the same place on both boots….right in the corners where the last eyelets are. One of the boots also has a lug that came unglued and flops around now. Since Keen has gone big it appears their quality has gone in the wrong direction. I won’t buy another pair of Keen anything.
Love Keens, have owned them for years. Thought I would try to find some online “less” expensive than a retail store. Paid about 25.00 less for these, when they arrived was thrilled. (They were a requested gift) After the first wear, the complaint came that there was something around the pinkie toe that made one shoe hurt, when I checked it, there was a huge bunch of fabric where the inside was sewn into the shoe RIGHT WHERE THE PINKIE TOE GOES. I wanted to return them but the giftie said no and suffered with the pain, until I cut out the spot. That tells me they were seconds, and not sellable in the retail market, which is why I got the $ discount. Won’t do it again, I looked like a fool. First and last time for this online purchase. I hate purchasing things to wear online, as my success rate is 30% at best, so I won’t do this again either.
I purchase a lot of Keen products because they fit so well on my feet. I have flat feet and have a sensitive metatarsel after breaking it several years ago – so a good fitting shoe is pretty important. Keen is no exception. They make the best footwear as far as I’m concerned.
I only wish they would do more research in rubber and build a better sole. Like a few of the others, I’ve had issues with the soles drying out and separating from the main sole or the upper. Granted, I was working in Afghanistan and Kuwait, but I believe that a tough shoe should last under any type of terrain and stress from constant wear over uneven surfaces.
I always recommend Keen products. I would suggest a little more R&D for the future.
I decided to try the Keen line of shoes with this Targhee II Mid. It is a very comfortable shoe. Good traction. Warm. I’d recommend these.
I bought these shoes at a national outdoor store chain 9 days ago. I’ve worn them everyday since and I must say they are extremely comfortable. Nice wide toebox, secure lacing system, very waterproof and breathable, aggressive lugs on the sole…
It’s just too bad the sole won’t stay on. NINE DAYS. That’s it. That’s all I got to wear them before the outsole started separating from the midsole like many of the other reviewers reported.
Luckily, the store is nearby, and I was able to walk in and return them. They had one more pair in my size, and I was going to wear the new ones home…
Except I couldn’t lace them up. The top left shoelace hook on one of these Targhee mids was manufactured BACKWARDS. The hook was facing the front of the shoe, making them impossible to tie.
The store offered a refund or exchange for another half size up which was too big. Since I was already 0 for 2 on these Chinese-made Keens, I went with a German-made boot at a $75 premium. Here’s hoping for a boot that’ll last more than a week, eh?
